Our Services

Seniors-focused housing management services

Operations management

Our tightly-knit support team is at the heart of our service, which oversees the day-to-day operations of all our managed properties. The team ensures proper service delivery and adherence to governance, operations protocols and strategic targets. This “hands-on” team provides administrative support, coaching, problem-solving and direction when and where needed.

Clinical services management

We provide professional and highly-skilled nursing and seniors care teams trained, supported and motivated by our proven best practices, protocols and systems. This approach ensures we provide exemplary delivery of resident care within the regulatory framework. We also incorporate a program of continuous internal reviews, inspections and audits that meet and exceed compliance and regulations.

Sales & marketing

We empower our clients’ sales and marketing activities through coaching, training and support from our office team. Our marketing strategies are proven with foundational messaging around a resident-centric focus, delivered via various traditional and digital platforms.

Human resources

The human resources team supports our seniors communities by providing recruitment, employee orientation, onboarding, contract compliance, labour issues management and benefits management. The team also offers strategic advice and guidance for long-term workforce planning, compensation strategies and succession planning.

Finance

Our finance team provides a complete and comprehensive range of financial management services required to meet all accounting best practices and regulatory requirements. The finance team covers a broad spectrum of specialized offerings, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and taxation. The group operates out of a centralized office and delivers professional and highly valuable financial management, controls and stewardship to our seniors communities.

Facilities maintenance

The proper maintenance and upkeep of our seniors communities is a key priority. We ensure that facilities are maintained to the highest standards cost-effectively. Our integrated services include an automated preventative maintenance system, a multi-year capital improvement and renovations program and a highly efficient room turnover program. Our on-site maintenance managers are supported with training and mentoring by a team of float maintenance managers and supervisors who regularly visit and inspect to ensure our maintenance requirements and goals are met.

Procurement

West Coast’s procurement program provides significant value for our clients by ensuring the highest quality products at the lowest cost. We do this through sheer buying power enabled by our related companies and lasting industry relationships. We also offer an automated and disciplined procurement program that ensures our facilities can purchase approved items quickly and cost-effectively while adhering to a controlled product procurement lifecycle. This provides seamless product and service delivery, centralized tracking and reporting by the facility and by bed or per diem, and timely payment to vendors to ensure contractual obligations.

Disaster & emergency planning

Failing to plan is planning to fail. Our standing emergency response team is in continuous communication and contact with our communities to ensure that best practices and protocols are maintained to reduce risk, enhance care and deliver peace of mind to staff and residents alike. We were one of the first adopters of an automated and comprehensive disaster management solution that ensures buildings are up to code and that staff are trained in proper disaster response life-safety programs. The emergency response team also guides and supports communities during public health alerts, including pandemics like COVID-19.

Facility renovations

The West Coast team has managed over $100 million in upgrades and renovations in the seniors housing sector. We are highly experienced in ensuring facilities are built with a home-like environment, remain operationally efficient over time, and fully comply with regulatory frameworks. This is crucial to preserving long-term asset value. Our renovation program is closely affiliated with our construction partner, Pacific Reach Developments. It provides in-house methodologies and best practices to deliver improvements to seniors housing facilities in a well-managed, safe and cost-efficient manner.

Development & construction management

Since 1995, West Coast has developed over $300 million in high-quality new seniors housing facilities. Again, working in alignment with our construction partner, Pacific Reach Developments, we offer modern and cost-effective development planning and delivery (concept planning/rezoning/design), construction management and operations commissioning.

Technology deployment

We have been recognized as an industry leader in information technology adoption and deployment to improve the lives of seniors. In addition to the requisite resident care and electronic health records system, our standard technology framework for a long-term care facility includes —

  • High-speed internet and wifi access
  • Cyber security umbrella
  • Data recovery & management
  • Nurse-call system integration to telephony and site physical access
  • Appropriate video surveillance
  • Medication management & eMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record)
  • Sales automation
  • Financial management
  • Automated shift fill & scheduling integrated into the payroll system
  • Nutrition & diet management
  • Emergency & disaster management
  • Employee training & performance management.

Energy management

We are proud to be a premier BC Hydro and FortisBC partner and have been part of their Commercial Energy Manager Program since 2015. We’ve employed a full-time energy manager over the past eight years to prove our energy conservation and efficiency commitment. Our energy management program monitors and tracks every aspect of utility acquisition and consumption and works to reduce our overall energy footprint while ensuring that the mechanical and electrical systems provide the best environmental comfort.

In-house legal services

Our in-house legal team comprises two full-time lawyers to ensure that all regulatory and legal issues are addressed proactively and cost-effectively. Our legal team's direct involvement and advice ensure vendor and employee contracts are properly finalized and operations-related problems are dealt with professionally. The legal team works collaboratively with our staff and facility managers to ensure that decisions are made which reduce risk and liability to the facilities and the ownership group.
